MUNICH JEWELLERY WEEK!!!

FINALLY!!!! I finally went to Munich Jewellery week!!! And it was a blast!!

I don’t always get to travel with my work or go to openings, but when they are one in a life time opportunities — I try my hardest to go.

So, I was over the moon to finally go to MJW and see my work in Talente <3

It was always on my “life goal” list to have my work in Talente, and it was a dream come true to travel for the opening. It was icing on the cake when I was awarded the Bavarian State Prize!! I had no idea I won the prize until I was over there, and to be honest — I didn’t even know you could get prizes. I thought being in the show was the prize! So, you can imagine my excitement when I got the email notifying me and asking me if I could attend the award the ceremony!

It was cute — I asked my BFFFFFFL Jenn Masley if she wanted to travel to Munich with me — and she said yes!!!! We have been friends for over 10 years since the first day of undergrad when she signed out her locker for art school from me when I worked the front desk at the galleries at Texas State. Also!! The incredible rae richards who helped champion installation during NYCJW for queerphoria was also there. It was really lovely to build our friendship and all three of us goof around Munich together seeing art. So, it was a really cute moment to have some really important folx there with me when I received the award. All week they were saying I was going to win an award, but I didn’t want to get my hopes up! Well, they were right! We all celebrated and it was v cute.

I got to see so so so much good work and some truly incredible installations. I really apprecaited how thoughtful the displays were and how they completed the conceptual underpinnings of the exhibition theme. It was nice to see how other makers across the world approach “adornment” and materiality so differently. It was inspiring, life changing, and I felt my work was in such great company with truly talented people.

ALso!!! I got to meet some of my idols!!! LIKE HELEN BRITTON!!!!!!!! OMG!!!!! Karl Fritsch, David Bielander, Iris Bodemar. It was great. I got to see my gallery Galerie Marzee and spend time with them.

I collected some new pieces, met virtual friends IRL, and ate some REALLLLLLY good vegan food!!!!!!

I do hope I can attend again. It was lovely to be out of the states and see great folx and work. I felt really ~in my element~

Please check out the Talente page in my archive to see more of the work selected for the exhibition.

BYE!!!! <3 <3 <3
